Crassostrea gigas ferritin: cDNA sequence analysis for two heavy chain type subunits and protein purification ArchiMer

Ferritin has been shown as being the principal iron storage in the majority of living organisms. In marine species, ferritin is also involved in high-level accumulation of Po-210. As part of our work on the investigation of these radionuclides' concentration in natural environment, ferritin was searched at the gene and protein level. Ferritin was purified from the visceral mass of the oyster Crassostrea gigas by ion-exchange chromatography and HPLC. SDS-PAGE revealed one band of 20 kDa. Tisochrysis lutea is a microalga species currently used in aquaculture as a feed for shellfish, oysters and shrimps. It also has many other potential industrial applications, such as the production of neutral lipids for biofuels or the production of ω-3 fatty acids for nutraceuticals (human food complements). Growth and condition of juvenile sole (Solea solea L.) as indicators of habitat quality in coastal and estuarine nurseries in the Bay of Biscay with a focus on sites exposed to the Erika oil spill ArchiMer

Indicators of growth and condition were used to compare the habitat quality of nurseries of juvenile sole (Solea solea L.) in the Bay of Biscay, based on one survey in 2000. The four biological indicators are poorly correlated with each other, suggesting that no single measure may give an adequate description of fish health and of its habitat's quality. Growth indicators showed significant differences between northern and southern areas. Juveniles from the two southernmost nurseries, the Gironde estuary and the Pertuis Antioche, displayed significant lower otolith increment widths and mean sizes. Microalgae have a diversity of industrial applications such as feed, food ingredients, depuration processes and energy. However, microalgal production costs could be substantially improved by controlling nutrient intake. Accordingly, a better understanding of microalgal nitrogen metabolism is essential. Using in silico analysis from transcriptomic data concerning the microalgae Tisochrysis lutea, four genes encoding putative high-affinity nitrate/nitrite transporters (TlNrt2) were identified. Unlike most of the land plants and microalgae, cloning of genomic sequences and their alignment with complementary DNA (cDNA) sequences did not reveal the presence of introns in all TlNrt2 genes. Screening and selection of growth-promoting bacteria for Dunaliella cultures ArchiMer

Previous studies have demonstrated that bacteria influence microalgal metabolism, suggesting that the selection and characterization of growth-promoting bacteria should offer a new strategy for improving industrial algal cultivation. In the present study, 48 cultivable bacteria were isolated from marine microalgae species and identified using 16S rRNA phylogenetic analysis. The recovered bacteria were found to be members of the α- and γ-Proteobacteria, Cytophaga–Flavobacterium–Bacteroides (CFB) and gram-positive monophyletic clusters.
